You can know the volume in MT4 platform by inserting the indicator "Volume". Click Insert>Indicator> Volumes>. Liquidity is always important to reflect the level of market participation in a price action.

practically impossible for the retail trader, now a pro who has more access at a wholesale or a bank level would know volume better

I disagree strongly with the first 2 posts. You can tell volume in MT4, which is really nothing more than a histogram of the (High - Low) of each candlestick. Now, liquidity and volume should not be interpreted as the same, from a MT4 platform perspective. Again, volume is the PIP volume per candlestick on MT4. Liquidity is the real world supply & demand of a currency pair (actual volume of currency 1 against currency 2, i.e. the EUR and USD).

Typically, as your question implies, volume and liquidity are related. Large PIP volumes typically mean a volatile market, and liquidity for one currency in the pair.

To know ACTUAL liquidity of the FX Spot market is not possible at the retail level, but quantifiable at the wholesale / broker level.

Do you think there is volume in forex? Since it is not a centralised market like the stock exchange it is difficult to know the volume in forex.
